Pinterest Rolls Out More Ways To Find Recipes

Pinterest is rolling out a new recipe search to the web, which will allow users to search for all kinds of recipes. The feature will let users discover, save and share recipes with each other. Users can now enter individual foods and ingredients into the search bar on Pinterest, which will then surface relevant recipe pins from across the site.

“Many of us rang in the New Year committed to eating healthier in 2014. Today, we’re adding new recipe search features to make sticking to that resolution a little easier. When you search for ingredients or a recipe on Pinterest, you’ll be able to filter for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and paleo meal ideas that fit your lifestyle”, wrote Jeff Miller, Software Engineer, on Pinterest blog. Miller is Founder and CEO of recipe site Punchfork which was acquired by Pinterest last year.
Moreover, an “indulge me” option is also available, for users when they want to gorge on not-so-healthy food. To use the new search filters, users can search on a specific dish or ingredient, and then click “All recipes” to see recipe-only search results. Users can then narrow down search results using the newly added search filters, and save recipes to their own boards. The search results will display recipes from pins across the website and even from the user’s pins. Recipe pins will also show additional information such as ingredients required, servings and even cook time.
For now, the recipe search feature is only being rolled out to the web but the company plans to soon bring it to mobile devices too.The social scrap-booking network  is smartly identifying the areas of its site that are becoming popular and enhancing them further. Food is one of the most-used categories on Pinterest and the feature will surly increase user engagement on the platform.
Earlier this month, Pinterest acquired image recognition and visual search start-up VisualGraph in order to enhance image search experience on its platform.
